A long time ago, when my sister and I were traveling in Italy, I was reading and she wanted to talk. I was deep into Amy Tan's The Kitchen God's Wife when I responded - shhhh I am in China! Lately I find my mind wandering to India. Our short trip there and the images I took have left me musing on a series of images I would like to make. I find my myself thinking of the ideas underlining the project and the techniques I could use. It was such a striking and seductively new experience and a different way of working for me that it keeps me dreaming in color and wanting to be 12,000 miles away.
I just got back from spending the last couple of weeks in Delhi, India. It was an amazing experience. Everyday I went out, I felt like I was watching this crazy vivid technicolor hd movie. It was overwhelming, over stimulating and very exciting - every single day. You could spend whole days just sitting in the car watching the traffic go by. Buses, cars, trucks, tractors, wagons, rickshaws, auto rickshaws, motorcycles, bikes, pedestrians, cows, camels, elephants - everyone using the same road trying to get somewhere. It is hard to capture the scale and organized chaos of it all, but here are a few shots that I grabbed from the road. Grand theft Delhi would make millions!
